Thanks for sharing that Michael. I had heard about that on the radio and turned on KTLA thinking they would have that story on. As I was getting dressed I heard them talk about it briefly and then they cut to carry the coverage of the funeral of LAPD SWAT Officer and Marine Corp Sgt Maj Robert J Cottle. Well that was it for me. There I was standing in the middle of my living room sobbing like a child. As the cassion carried his casket up the street from the new LAPD building to the Our Lady of Angels Cathedral and then passed under the crossed ladders of two LAFD fire trucks and the bagpipes began, I just lost it. It was truly moving and to tell you the truth, I forgot about the earthquake story for which I originally tuned it.
http://abclocal.go.com/kabc/story?section=news/local/los_angeles&id=7383193This man embodied "Hero". He truly did. What really made me cry the most was seeing his wife carrying their 9 month old child. That really, really was such a sad, sad thing to see. If that didn't get anyone to even mist up, then they have no heart or soul.
Thanks for your service Michael. You guys certainly don't get enough credit for the job you do and frankly you get a lot of grief to be honest with you. I don't have to ask why you do it because I know why. It is just like my son and other firemen that I know. They do it because they love the job. It isn't the risk factor or the "rush" or adrenaline thing either. It truly is wanting to help people that need help, so thank you and all that serve with you. Keep safe.
