    Hi Rose,

The GRB acronym stands for Gamma Ray Burst. They are highly energetic particles that penetrate into earth's atmosphere and core. Some people guess that they might cause effects here on earth, like earthquakes but the actual cause-effect relationship is not precisely known.

    Wikipedia says:
"Bursts can last from milliseconds to nearly an hour, although a typical burst lasts a few seconds. The initial burst is usually followed by a longer-lived "afterglow" emitting at longer wavelengths (X-ray, ultraviolet, optical, infrared and radio).

Most observed GRBs are believed to be a narrow beam of intense radiation released during a supernova event, as a rapidly rotating, high-mass star collapses to form a black hole. A subclass of GRBs (the "short" bursts) appear to originate from a different process, possibly the merger of binary neutron stars."

On tuesday, there were 4 GRBs in one day detected by the NASA SWIFT monitors, which is a large number for one day's reporting. The first column is the gamma ray burst number which is composed of the yr-mth-day with a letter (A,B...) to indicate that more than one burst was recorded. The second column contains the Universal Time when the burst was Detected by the NASA monitors (so you'd add 8 hours if you are in CA). The UVOT magnitude is some measure of radiation, but when I looked at the chart to pick up the data, that value had not been calculated for the last two readings.

Yes, I know! It is hard to find time to post on both sites. I try to check in here at least a couple times a week. I like all the sites, but earthboppin is just easier for me because it is the fastest and I don't have much time. I'm thinking of you all!
